Delivery of Wing First Aid Policy.
A qualified First Aider is required to be on duty at your Sqn on all parade evenings and there will be first aid provision within the Wing and Sqn HQ. Make yourself aware of this First Aid provision and the location of the First Aid kits and accident reporting forms. The minimum level of first aid equipment for your Sqn is suitably stocked and in a properly identified container. Where out door activities are planned, mobile first aid kits are to be carried. The content of first aid kits must be compatible with the risk, for example, the expected Sqn first aid kit would contain items to treat burns, sprains and cuts, whereas the expedition first aid kit would be geared up to include treatment for strains, bruising and ice packs for swelling of injuries.
Training of Wing and Squadron Staff
Training for First Aid within the Wing is an Adult Community Course over 2 days covering 16hrs. This qualification with a St John Ambulance certificate will entitle you to train and assess the cadets for the Young First Aider badge and certificate. This course also covers you for any adventures courses.
Instructor Cadets 18+
Instructor cadets 18+ may apply for the Adult Community Course as and when spaces are available.
Cadet Training
Cadets are trained by qualified trainers with a current certificate. The
training is given through a flexible modular course. It can be used to support the basic acquisition of first aid skills using topics as individual activities. Young first aider can also be used over a number of sessions towards accreditation such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.
First Aid training register and staff qualifications listing, currency
All staff and staff cadets with a First Aid certificate whether in house or of another source are on the Wing register with qualifications listed as being able to train/assess cadets or not including dates of expiry. A three month warning is applied to any certificate holder as a warning that the certificate is about to expire.
