We are delighted to confirm Sgt Jess Head from 301 (Bury St Edmunds) Squadron has been chosen from the hundreds of applicants across the cadet forces as a finalist in the CVQO Westminster Award.
After the initial nomination from her Squadron VQ Officer which saw her advance to Stage 2; she had to complete a creative assignment set by CVQO detailing why she should win a place at the Stage 3 Selection event in Somerset. This event included a week-long residential camp including outdoor team building activities and the opportunity to gain an Institute of Leadership & Management Level 3 qualification.
Sgt Head was chosen as one of the finalists after this event and is now heading off on Stage 4’s two week expedition in Cornwall where she will be working with organisations such as the Wildlife Trust, Shelterbox and The Wave Project amongst others! The final stage is a reception at The House of Lords in September where the final winner will be announced.
Sgt Head said “I am delighted to have been selected as one of the final 10 individuals for the CVQO Westminster Award 2022, representing not only my Squadron and Wing but the RAFAC as a whole. The Award itself doesn’t just representative the RAFAC as it also embodies all uniformed youth organisations including the Army, Sea, Fire & Police Cadets, St John Ambulance, and even Scouts. The opportunity itself has provided me with rare experiences and the chance to meet individual who are now friends for life. I’m excited to see what Cornwall has in store and even more so to the House of Lords Lunch and Awards ceremony come September”.
Flt Lt Castle, Wing BTEC Officer commented “It is fantastic to see Sgt Head recognised by CVQO for the outstanding cadet she is. She worked very hard to complete her BTEC in challenging circumstances due to the pandemic and this along with her work at 301 has been duly recognised”.
