On Thursday 12 August, 42F (King’s Lynn) Squadron Air Training Corps Air Cadet, Jack White, was formally promoted to Cadet Warrant Officer, the highest rank that any cadet can achieve.
During a cadet’s time in the Air Training Corps, those with leadership potential can be promoted through the ranks as a non-commissioned officer and tasked with leading their fellow cadets in activities and at events. Only a small portion of these leaders will ever achieve the prestigious rank of Cadet Warrant Officer and gaining this accolade shows dedication, leadership ability and good knowledge of the organisation.
Jack began his cadet career in May 2015 at age 13 and has thrown himself into all of the activities that the RAF Air Cadets has to offer. He has attended numerous camps at active RAF stations and abroad. He has also taken the time to develop his own skills and has gained a BTEC in Teamwork and Personal Development and another in Aviation Studies.
Jack has spent the last few years as a senior cadet on 42F Squadron, mentoring new recruits and other cadets into becoming the best that they can be. A qualified cadet instructor, he has led lessons focusing on his skillset in leadership, airmanship, map reading and more.
In September 2019, Jack led the Squadron’s drill team to success at the Norfolk and Suffolk Wing Drill Competition, bringing home third place for the team and winning the Best Drill NCO award.
Upon being promoted to Cadet Warrant Officer, the highest rank that a cadet can achieve, Jack said that he is “immensely proud and grateful”. He added “I’m thankful to all of the staff who have helped develop me into the young man I am today. I am also grateful to the cadets who came before me who helped to train and guide me in my early years as an Air Cadet. I now hope to return the favour and pass on my experience to our new recruits.”
As Cadet Warrant Officer, Jack will now be responsible for managing the Squadron’s cadets during its twice-weekly parade nights and at other events. He will form the vital link between the cadets and the staff team, helping to train and lead the next generation of cadets.
