On Friday 25th March a Memorial Service and celebration of the life of Sir Michael Oswald GCVO was held at St Clement Danes Church, the Central Church of the Royal Air Force, in The Strand, London.
Sir William Richard Michael Oswald died aged 86 on the day of HRH the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral, 17th April 2021, at the height of the Covid pandemic restrictions. He was the horse raising adviser and very close friend of Her Majesty the Queen.
The service was attended by HRH Princess Ann The Princess Royal and Sir Timothy Laurence, HRH Prince Richard Duke of Gloucester and HRH Prince Michael of Kent.
42F (King’s Lynn) Squadron Royal Air Force Cadets was honoured and privileged to have Sir Michael as its Honorary President for almost six years, a position he enjoyed holding and which his wife Lady Angela said gave him great pleasure. Sir Michael had also held the position of Honorary President of 2620 Squadron Royal Air Force Auxiliary Regiment at RAF Marham.
42F’s Commanding Officer Flt Lt Pauline Petch and its Civilian Committee Chairman and Secretary, Mike and Julie Lister represented the squadron at the service and the following reception at the Institute of Directors on Pall Mall.
