I became part of the royal air force air cadets back in the summer of 2017; this was because my ambition in life is to become a chef in the Royal Air Force. I thought this would enhance my knowledge and give me an insight about life within the RAF, and it sure did! From visiting RAF stations, to shooting, flying, going on camps and completing my bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award.
This summer I had the opportunity to go on the wing green camp; here I did a range of activities from target shooting, field craft, water sports and of road cycling. As well as all those experiences you also get to feel what life is like within a base from sleeping in the barracks to eating in the station mess.
My favourite experience was going flying, I did this in the first year of me being a cadet and I loved it! I was extremely nervous, as I have never been in a plane, but the staff where so supportive and as soon as I was up in the sky I loved it. I was also allowed to take control of the plane, and then we did some aerobatics. It was amazing!
I have also taken part in many sporting activities from touch rugby and football to representing the wing in hockey and netball. The atmospheres at these events are the best, everyone gives it there all and I have a great time.
I am looking forward to going on the WW1 Normandy beaches trip next year, as it is my first abroad camp and I feel like it is going to be an amazing, life changing experience. It will also help me appreciate the things people went through for us to have the life we have now, as well as expanding on my knowledge of what went on.
